Meet, Greet, Get Slim
In a few days January will be history. How did the New Year's resolution go? Did you get moving and get active?
Are you still siting at the computer or planted on your sofa? Did you start off strong going to workout and then got off schedule and lost your momentum. It happens to the best of us. There are tons of reasons why this happens. I just want to focus on two reasons most workout intentions fizzle out.
- The activity has to fun based
- The activity has to be socially stimulating
Wow, can it be that simple? Let's examine it and at the end you can be the judge. Humans are very social beings. We enjoy activites that are fun based and have opportunities for social interaction. So if that is what we really like and enjoy why do we pick exercise programs that do not satisfy that drive and need? In January the local track is jammed pack with people dressed ready to workout with their new ipod loaded with their favorite songs. The routine joggers nod and continue their regular routine, smirking because they know that in a matter of weeks they will have the track all to themselves by February. So what is fun, social and gets your moving. Dancing! Don't laugh, I am not suggesting you break out you party clothes dress up and hit the dance club. I am suggesting something that you can do and get to bed at a decent hour and get your full 8 hours of beauty sleep.
Break the cycle, find things to do that are less like exercise. Take a dance class, zumba, yoga, ballroom, belly dancing, hula, bollywood, salsa, line dancing or tango. There is something for every size, shape, and pace. We have watched the dance shows and seen our favoriate stars learning all of those fun dances and the vote is uninamous it will make you sweat but it is tons of fun to do and learn.
Find a class with lots of people this way you will have a variety of people to interact with and socialize. It will surprise you when you get fit because it will be fun, which will support our two requirements for a successful exercise program. You will find you go to class because you want to see your new friends. It will erase you excuses for not going, when you know your fellow classmates are looking forward to seeing you and you are looking forward to seeing them. Your new friends will automatically have something in common with you. The need to get fit and the class you both attend. It can even extend outside of the classroom as you decide to go and get a low fat snack or a organic chai as a reward for all that fun you just had.
Starting a new program can begin to uncover the truth about your body..... it may be out of shape. Don't worry in just a few weeks you will notice that you are feeling better, stronger and more confident about your program. In the meantime here are some suggestions to get you over the initial shock and keep you motivated to push through your workout experience.

I love going to Yoga class, because I learn more in class than from doing the DVD at home. And let's face it you are less likely to cheat on a move in a class full of people than in front of you T.V., sofa and the dog.
I picked this video because it shows two new types of yoga that is breaking out onto the scene. They look like great fun. I will ask around and see if we have this in the Hampton Roads area. If you have taken this class I would love to hear the details.
Until next time
Peace, Abundance and Bliss
